Swara Bhaskar is a strong performer, not matter if the length of the role given to her is that like in Tanu Weds Manu. Give her a solo lead film, and she does a wonderful job. She proved her mettle with last year’s Nil Battey Sannata, and she is on screen again with Anaarkali Of Aarah. She plays a singer of erotic songs, based in Arrah. The movie directed by Avinash Das opened in theatres today, and is getting mixed to positive reviews. Here is what the critics are saying about the film…
In their 3 star review The Quint sufficed, “Anarkali of Arrah could have been a far better film, but it still deserves to be seen for all the things it gets right.” They particularly enjoyed the performances and mentioned “Swara single handedly gives us moments that make the movie Anarkali of Arre waah! Also seasoned actors of the caliber of Sanjay Mishra and Pankaj Tripathi are remarkably effective in their roles. The performances, in fact, help keep the narrative together with the songs bringing alive the rustic charm of unvarnished small town India.”
The Indian Express was also in awe of the film. In their 3.5 star review they wrote, “Anaarkali manages to hit many marks. Bhaskar gets a lead role worthy of her. Das is a new director to watch out for. And more than anything else, it is a ladies-oriented film. Enough and more, in these dismal times.”
Criticising movie on it failing in a few departments, Deccan Chronicle wrote, in their 3 star review, “The film does have its moments of sheer brilliance, especially in the humour department. But it’s adamancy with the narrative technique and unnecessary inclusion of minutest of details spoils the game. Both Sanjay Mishra and Pankaj Tripathi (as Rangeela) have played their parts well but they are nowhere close to what you would expect out of two experienced actors like them.”
KoiMoi says, “Rohit Sharma’s music is a key element in this film and it has been impressively composed bringing in the true ‘Bhojpuri’ flavour. Ramkumar Singh, Dr. Sagar and Ravinder Randhawa have worked on the lyrics. Mind you, the ‘Lehenga’ song may sound cringeworthy, but it rightfully fits with the film’s theme.”
Well, this was the review round up of Swara Bhaskar starrer Anaarkali Of Aarah.
