Anurag Basu’s ‘Jagga Jasoos’, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif has been the talk of the town since its initiation. However, the film is finding it hard to get the cash registers ringing.
However, according to a latest report, ‘Jagga Jasoos’ has raked in as much as Rs 48.77 crore in two weeks of its running in Indian cinemas. While the first week earned Rs 43.12 crore, the second saw the graph dip to Rs 5.65 crore.
The film has still managed to claim the seventh spot among the highest Bollywood first-week collections of the year. It stands behind ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’, Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Jolly LLB 2’, Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt’s ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Kaabil’.
Recently in an interview, Ranbir who produced this film, had hinted at reimbursing the losses incurred by distributors.
Moreover, father Rishi Kapoor lashed out at director Basu for the series of events that led to the underperformance of the film. Especially the fact that it was supposed to release thrice in the last two years, but it didn’t and now it couldn’t maintain a steady growth at the ticket windows.
While the makers even wanted to make a sequel to the first of its kind musical Hindi film. Now with box office collections like this, it may now seem a farfetched dream. The film is a musical, adventure ride in a storytelling format and has been keeping the critics anxious of its fate.
