Late last night, we got the news that filmmaker Karan Johar has welcomed two twins into his home. Yes, he became a dad via surrogacy and everyone is ecstatic. We have seen how fatherly Karan is in the manner he mentors everyone under him. Whether it is his ADs or newbies, he is a guide you’ll love to have in your life. We guess the desire to become a dad just grew overpowering for the filmmaker in recent years.
He has become a proud dad to Yash and Ruhi and this is what he had to say: I am ecstatic to share with you all the two most wonderful additions to my life, my children and lifelines; Roohi and Yash. I feel enormously blessed to be a parent to these pieces of my heart who were welcomed into this world with the help of the marvels of medical science. This was an emotional yet well thought out decision which I have taken after considering all the responsibilities and duties that come with being a parent.
In order to arrive at this decision, I have prepared myself mentally, physically, emotionally and logistically to ensure that my children get all the unconditional love, care and attention from me and mine. I have submitted to the fact that my children are my world and priority. My work, travels and social commitments would have to take a back seat and I am prepared for that. By the grace of God, I have the most caring and supportive mother who will be an integral part in the up-bringing of her grandchildren and of course, friends who are family.
I am eternally grateful to the surrogate who has fulfilled my lifelong dream and provided a warm, loving and nurturing environment to my children before bringing them into this world. She will always remain in my prayers. Finally, a big thank you to Dr. Jatin Shah for his guidance and support and for being like a family member through this wonderful and exciting journey.”
6 Bollywood celebs who opted for a surrogate child or IVF
Bollywood woke up to the news of actor Tusshar Kapoor announcing his surrogate child yesterday. The actor, the son of veteran star Jeetendra and brother of film and TV producer Ekta Kapoor, is a single father. Like international celebs, Tusshar bravely decided to go in for surrogacy to be a single father. He is not married and not dating anyone, and may not get married in the future. But his “paternal instincts”, as he says, overpowered him and he decided to have a baby through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and surrogacy.
Here are some more examples from Bollywood who opted for surrogacy, like Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, but for their first, second or third child and the reasons for it.
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao
Actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan already has two lovely children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan, with his first wife Reena Dutta. When he divorced Reena and later got married to filmmaker Kiran Rao, the couple wanted a child. But Kiran’s miscarriage left the couple disheartened for a while. Soon, Aamir and Kiran decided to opt for surrogacy and had a lovely baby in Azad Rao Khan. Aamir Khan became the face of surrogacy in India.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan
Soon after Aamir’s surrogate baby, there were strong rumours of superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan’s visits to an IVF clinic in south Mumbai. AbRam Khan was born as the couple’s third child, after Aryan Khan and Suhana Khan. AbRam was unwell right after he was born and in the incubator, say reports, and so he was well-protected from the world. Now, of course, he is a star on social media and the apple of his parents’ eyes!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan
Now, this one was hush-hush, we hear. Aaradhya Bachchan is not a surrogate child. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was very much pregnant with Abhishek Bachchan’s child and delivered the baby through a natural process, as she wanted. But there were reports in a Mumbai tabloid and also a national daily that Aishwarya and Abhishek did consult an IVF clinic in Bangkok, Thailand. Nobody knows the truth, but we don’t really care. The couple and the child are happy and healthy, and that’s what matters.
Tusshar Kapoor – Single father
Tusshar’s son Laksshya was born a week ago. The single father announced on Twitter and Instagram on June 27, “I proudly announce the arrival of my son, a baby boy, born last week through IVF and surrogacy. The baby, Laksshya, is in excellent health. I am thrilled to be a father! The paternal instincts in me have been overpowering my heart and mind for some time now. Therefore, I am thrilled beyond words to have Laksshya, now the greatest source of joy in my life. By the greatness of God and the excellent medical team at Jaslok, parenthood is an option for many, who choose to be single parents. Thanks to you all for your blessings & good wishes.”
Tusshar always wanted to adopt a child, but on the suggestion of director Prakash Jha, decided to go in for surrogacy, he revealed.
Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder
The filmmaker-choreographer and the editor-filmmaker seemed like an odd couple, with Shirish being younger than Farah. But their love has lasted all these years. We gather Farah’s age and situation may have made her go in for IVF, but not surrogacy, of course. Their triplets Diva, Anya and Czar Kunder were born to Farah the natural way.
Sohail Khan and Seema Khan
Reports say that when Salman Khan’s brother Sohail Khan wanted a second child, his wife Seema and he opted for surrogacy. So after their son Nirvaan Khan, they have Yohan Khan. Do you know of any more Bollywood celebrities who have gone in for IVF and / or surrogacy?
