One of the fiercest episodes of Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee with Karan season 5 was the one featuring Kangana Ranaut, and Saif Ali Khan. While Saif maintained his royal poise, and cut back on his understated sense of humour, it was Kangana who stole the show by giving it back to Karan. She openly called him out for nepotism, in a witty, well-framed set of words. “Not entirely! She made an impact with her sweeping statements! That was fun… for her! And the show.”
Karan had tweeted when asked if Kangana was right about nepotism. At a recent event, Karan had the opportunity to use more than 140 words to express his opinion about the actress, and he used it to the fullest. From suggesting that Kangana should leave the industry to saying that she plays the victim card a little too much – Karan bared it all.
Karan was speaking at the LSE India Forum event. When asked about the episode in question, he said, “I appreciated she had great perspective and everyone lauded her because she came on my show and gave it off to Karan, according to what everyone said. I was gracious enough to keep everything. I cut none of it. I could have edited so much, it is my show. I said no, this is her opinion and let the world see it. I gave her the platform,” An answer that could have easily stopped at this point, was further elaborated with hurtful words that might just start a new industry fight.
“I am done with Kangana playing the woman card, and the victim card. You cannot be this victim at every given point of time who has a story to tell about how you were terrorised bad world of the industry. Then leave it!” he further added, sparking a wave of chuckles from the audience.
The episode featuring Kangana had garnered a strong reaction. A hell lot of opinion and satirical pieces started flooding the internet. Arre wrote, ” It took the three-time National Award-winning actress all of Koffee with Karan’s 47-minute runtime to call out Karan Johar on his nepotism, disdain for outsiders, and the absolute frivolity that is the hallmark of his show.” And there seemed to be no end of it. Majority applauded Kangana for her attitude. And of course, Karan had to speak up. This might be the harshest reply Karan has given to the Rangoon actress, but it would have been more impactful had he done it in that very episode. And not three weeks after the airing, when a majority have sided with the actress.
This was not the only jibe taken at Kangana Ranaut that we should talk about. On the latest episode of Koffee with Karan, the host asked Kapil Sharma what would he do if he woke up as Kangana Ranaut one day. The comedian replied that he would delete all the email accounts. Kapil and Karan shared a sly laughter after this statement. Kapil soon changed his answer to something else, but Karan chose to stick to the original stance.
Hrithik Roshan involved in Karan Johar and Kangana Ranaut’s fallout?
While we thought it was all in reaction to publicly being slammed as the ‘flag-bearer of nepotism”? Today’s Mumbai Mirror report further brings out this another interesting twist in the tale stating how Hrithik Roshan could also be indirectly having a hand in Karan Johar’s fallout with Kangana Ranaut In the sense, not that Hrithik personally involved himself to bash Kangana for he would probably never associate himself with anything related to Kangana after what happened in the past, but a source close to Mumbai Mirror wonders if, “Karan Johar is in fact wooing Hrithik Roshan who has famously fallen out with Ranaut, for a film he’s doing. In making jibes at Ranaut, could KJO be making it extremely clear which side of the battle line he is on?” We dunno how believable is this theory but then, you never know…
For all the ignorant, the Karan-Kangana mutual hate began after Kangana slammed Karan on Koffee With Karan 5 by calling him the ‘flag-bearer of nepotism. Although Karan maintained his sanity on his show but he royally slammed Kangana on a public forum yesterday. He said, “She was my guest and I had to hear what she had to say. She has a right to have an opinion. When she says ‘Flag bearer of Nepotism’, I just want to say her, I am glad she knows what it all means. I don’t think she has understood the entire meaning of the term.
What is nepotism… am I working with my nieces, nephews, daughters, cousins? And what about those 15 filmmakers, who are not from the film industry, who I have launched and who did the movies. That we’re not going to talk about! Tarun Mansukhani, Puneet Malhotra, Shakun Batra, Shashank Khaitan… they all come from no film background. You give these people film careers and they have a platform to stand on and that’s the reverse of nepotism. I’m done with Kangana playing the woman and victim card.
I am done! You cannot be this victim every time and have a sad story to tell about how you’ve been terrorised by the bad world of the industry … leave it”
Now it’s left to see how will Kangana deal with this mess hereafter. Your thoughts?
