After 2014’s The Judge and a cameo in Chef, Robert Downey Jr. will finally be seen in a role other than Iron Man/Tony Stark. And just like The Judge, he’ll be producing the film under his home production, Team Downey.

The film will be based on the episode Man of the People from Gimlet Media’s Reply All podcast. The film will follow the story of a bitter rivalry between two doctors, one of whom was John Brinkley, a man who found acclaim and riches by scamming people with phony medicine and a populist attitude all by utilizing a hot new toy – radio  and Morris Fishbein, the editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association, who goes on a decade-long quest to take Brinkley down.

The film will be a period film and may be based in the period sometime around 1920s-1940s. Knowing Robert Downey Jr, he’ll be great as the Con Man.

Filmmaker Richard Linklater will be directing actor Robert Downey Jr. in a film and it is a reunion for them as the have earlier worked together in 2006′s A Scanner Darkly. Megan Ellison will produce for motion picture company Annapurna Pictures, with Downey Jr and Susan Downey under their Team Downey banner. Linklater will co-produce along with Gimlet Media.

As far as their next projects are concerned, director Richard Linklater’s next Last Flag Flying, will be released through Amazon and stars Bryan Cranston and Steve Carell. He’ll also be directing another feature for Annapurna, an adaptation of Where’d You Go, Bernadette.

Robert Downey Jr. on the other hand will next be seen as Iron Man, in Spider-Man: Homecoming and next year’s Avengers: Infinity War.
