Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati is certainly looking like a jinxed production, though it has more to do with the skewered opinions of certain sections of our society than with pure bad luck. A couple of months ago, the unit had a nightmarish time in Jaipur where some vandals belonging to a Rajputana group barged into the sets, broke things and manhandled the director, the shocking visuals of which was captured by the media at the venue. Now the movie suffers another setback when its set in Kolhapur has been set ablaze by some fringe group who are set to claim responsibility for the incident. According to reports, the incident took place in the night, and that no incidents of any injury has been reported so far. The schedule involved both Ranveer Singh who plays Alauddin Khilji in the movie, and Deepika Padukone who is Padmavati.
Shahid Kapoor, who plays Deepika’s husband in the movie, was not present at the schedule, and therefore missed the disruption. During a recent media interaction, he spoke about the reporters present about he was aware of the entire incident, that certain sets were ruined and costumes were destroyed and that no one was harmed during the mishap. But he also clearly said that he had no clue about who was behind the incident, and hence can’t say much on it. But he did say he was aware that the production team is filing an FIR against all involved.
Let’s hope that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project gets on tracks after this dastardly event, and that police will take the right action against the miscreants. For a country that takes pride in its democracy and freedom of expression, this attitude is certainly not tolerant.
