Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the visionary filmmaker who has given us exemplary movies like Ram Leela and Jodha Akbar, was slapped by a furious mob in Jaipur on the sets of his film – Padmavati. Bollywood came out in support of the the director in a strong way and one among them is Shoojit Sircar.
In an interview, Shoojit was asked about his views on the same. “It will be a constant fight. This is not the end of it. And in future also we will have to go through this kind of examination and test. That doesn’t mean we sit quite and don’t make films.
We will have to keep on fighting.. we will have to be brave. We as filmmakers are also citizens of this country. If you have a democratic right to protest, I have every democratic right to make a film. Supreme Court has said if you don’t like a film, don’t watch it. So there’s no other body beyond the Supreme Court who can take rules in their hands.. judgements and decisions in their hands.
This is not right. I think that is unethical and unlawful. We make a film, we go to CBFC and they grade it.. you go to a court.. you come to an open platform, talk about it, but you have no right to stop other people who want to watch a film not to let them watch that film or not let them make a film.” Well, he makes a valid point here. Don’t you think so?
On the work front, Shoojit, who has directed Pink (2016) and Piku (2015) previously, is all set to return to the producer’s seat with RunningShaadi.com.
