Akshay Kumar is picking some unique and interesting subjects of late. Among the ones he has already signed is Reema Kagti’s Gold. The sports based drama is a biopic on the life of Balbir Singh — the celebrated hockey player who helped India win three consecutive gold medals in the 1948, 1952 and 1956 Olympics.
He is also working with off-beat (read not top commercial) actresses. After Airlift with Nimrat Kaur, Taapsee Pannu in Baby and now Padman with Radhika Apte, he might pair up with Swara Bhaskar. The team was scouting for a powerful actress to essay the main lead opposite the Khiladi. Says a source, “The team was looking for someone with acting prowess. After considering a few names, they chose Swara Bhaskar. They have approached her and she will soon sit for a narration and decide.”
If this works out well, this will be Swara’s first film as a lead opposite an A-list actor. Previously, she played Salman Khan’s sister in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Our khabri adds, “Swara’s last film Nil Battey Sannata did well critically and commercially, the makers feel she’s got the perfect mix for a film like Gold.”
Akshay Kumar has his bag full. He not only has Gold, but Crack and Mogul in 2018. He is also reportedly starring in Divya Khosla’s next. And in 2017, he will be seen in 2.0, Pad Man.
