No, this is not a spinoff based on the popular Marvel superhero, that has been played by Don Cheadle in the Iron Man and Avengers movies. War Machine is an upcoming Brad Pitt movie that is produced by Netflix. Set during the modern times, it is a war movie but not the serious kind like Hacksaw Ridge or Saving Private Ryan.
War Machine is based on the nonfiction book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by late journalist Michael Hastings. Brad Pitt plays a four-star U.S. general, who is the commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan. The movie, described as “an absurdist war story for our times”, has Pitt’s character having rise and fall in his career, the latter triggered by a journalist’s expose.

War Machine has an eclectic supporting cast with the likes of Tilda Swinton, Sir Ben Kingsley, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Anthony Michael Hall,  Lakeith Stanfield, Emory Cohen, John Magaro, RJ Cyler, Alan Ruck, Scoot McNairy and Meg Tilly. The movie is directed and written by David Michôd, known for directing Animal Kingdom and The Rover. Netflix will release the movie on its streaming service on May 26.

Here’s the teaser of War Machine…

Let’s hope that War Machine will rectify the disappointment caused by the mixed reception received by Brad Pitt’s last release, Allied.
