Kangana Ranaut surprised one and all when she took a dig at Karan Johar on his popular chat show – Koffee with Karan. The actress had appeared on the show along with her Rangoon co-star Saif Ali Khan. And while the show was really interesting, Karan and his whole team were in for a shock when Kangana declared, “In my biopic, if it is ever made, you (Karan) will play this stereotypical Bollywood biggie who is very snooty and completely intolerant to outsiders and the flag bearer of nepotism, the movie mafia.
You will have a huge part to play in my biopic. I like the antagonist in you in my biopic.”
While there have been various reports that Karan Johar was not happy with her comments, the film-maker has finally revealed what he really felt about Kangana’s statements.
During a Twitter conversation with his followers, when KJo was asked if Kangana’s comments on nepotism were correct, the chat show host replied, “Not entirely! She made an impact with her sweeping statements! That was fun…for her! And the show.” When another person asked him if he was actually obsessed with star kids, Karan replied, “#askkangana.”
7 Karan Johar Controversies That Shocked Bollywood
- When he took the phrase ‘Love thy neighbour’ a tad too seriously
And professed his undying love for Akshay Kumar’s beautiful wife, Twinkle Khanna; “The only woman in my life who I thought I was in love with was your wife. I was madly in love with her. I named my character in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai after her because I was in love with her.” Awkward much?
- When he asserted his right to keep his sexual orientation to himself
And consequently ended up the stuff of tabloid fodder for years together. Karan however refused to clear the air by saying, “If you are single and 39, then obviously there will be conjectures about your sexual orientation. I am not worried about that, I am comfortable with all of rumours. I am comfortable with their perception of my sexual orientation. Nobody knows what I stand for in my personal life and I like to keep it that way.”
- When he locked horns with Ram Gopal Verma – Virtually, of course
While we won’t say that Student of the Year is the most brilliant piece of cinematic art we’ve ever seen, but RGV probably took things a little too far by tweeting, “If someone takes off from Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the year’ and makes Teacher of the year it will become the Disaster of the year.” Not one to take insults lightly, Karan Johar repaid the favour by tweeting, “Disaster of the year is your territory Ramu…no one can ever replace the comfortable place you have made for yourself there.” #BURN.
- When his frank discourse about ‘positions’ left the moral police scandalized
Of course, some took it upon themselves to make their displeasure heard. Loud and clear.
- When his friendship with Salman hit Shah Rukh the wrong way
Apparently having your arch rival invited to the premiere episode of your BFF’s chat show is grounds for boycotting said chat show in SRK’s book. Ouch.
- When he entered the SRK – Priyanka – Gauri Khan love triangle
Outraged by PeeCee’s suppsoed relationship with SRK, Karan Johar did what any good friend would do: He iced her out of their social circle and virtually as well – “Using their hired PR machinery and hiding behind so called “friends” to get news into tabloids is nothing but spineless and lame! Some people need to wake up and smell the KOFFEE!!! Get a reality check before it’s too late!!! Grow up!!! and don’t mess with goodness,” he tweeted.
- When he refused to bow down to all the moral outrage against the celebrity roast
There’s a reason one doesn’t mess with the Johar.
